Pico del Teide on Tenerife
If you know where the Canary Islands are, you have probably heard of Pico del Teide, the world’s third highest volcano (measured from the seabed to the peak) and the highest mountain of Spain. Because it is so high, you can see it not only from Tenerife, the island where Teide is located, but also from most other islands. Mount Teide is well visible from the west coast of Gran Canaria, though its 3,718 metres of altitude turn into a small triangle rising from the clouds (the most typical picture).
From the west coast of Gran Canaria to the peak of Teide
There is a really panoramic road along the west coast of Gran Canaria (GC-200 between La Aldea and Agaete). When you are driving on this road (it is quite challenging, so don’t get too distracted), you will enjoy spectacular views hundreds of metres down to the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, or hundreds of metres up to the tips of the cliffs. And not least, unless the weather is extremely horrible, you will be able to see the island of Tenerife and the characteristic triangle-shaped Teide far in the sea (it is actually some 70 km from coast to coast and about 90 km from the west coast of Gran Canaria to the peak of Teide).
